What is the process of having acupuncture?

After you have made your enquiry I will get back to you to arrange your free (approximately 20 minute) initial consultation. We will discuss your medical background and your current symptoms.

Following the consultation we will undertake a full diagnostic assessment together which forms the structure of your individual treatment plan (approximately 1.5 hours) and includes a mini treatment.

Treatments will be carried out in line with your agreed treatment plan and last between 45 to 60 minutes per session.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine in comparison with needles used for blood tests and injections. People report changes in sensation rather than discomfort. Some people even fall asleep!

How many sessions will I need?

The number and frequency of treatments you will need vary on an individual basis. The more chronic the condition the more likely you are to need treatment over a longer period of time. We will review progress together.

Acupuncture is also very effective when used as preventive healthcare, patients often choose to return at the change of each season.

What do I wear?

Ideally loose clothing with access to areas that need treating is recommended, avoiding anything that is too tight or difficult to remove. Cycling shorts are a popular choice. We will also supply gowns for you to wear during your treatment.

What can acupuncture treat?

Traditionally, acupuncture has been used to treat almost the entire spectrum of illnesses:- psychological, physical, chronic and acute. I treat adults presenting with a wide range of symptoms, particularly pain, muscular skeletal, menopausal, digestive issues, anxiety and mental health conditions.

Research into the use of traditional acupuncture continues to show encouraging results. See the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) website for more detailed information.
